The Philadelphia Phillies are still looking for a left handed answer out of the bullpen.
After agreeing to a 1-year $1.1 million contract with lefty Dennys Reyes back on December 8th, the deal fell apart on Friday afternoon and the two sides have decided to go separate ways.
“We could not finish off the details,” said Phillies assistant General Manager Scott Proefrock.
Reports were that Reyes was in Philadelphia for a physical on Thursday afternoon.
Neither Proefrock nor Reyes’ agent Oscar Suarez would disclose why the deal fell apart.
“Dennys is still on the market,” said Suarez.
The 33-year old pitcher went 3-1 with a 3.55 ERA in 59 appearances (38.0 innings) last season. Left-handed hitters batted .307/.409/.453. Reyes also had control issues in 2010 walking 21 batters while striking out 25.
Reyes was set to join his 11th MLB team. He has held left handed hitters to an average line of .238/.322/.337 over his 14 year career.
Philadelphia will continue its search for a lefty out of the bullpen but the market is drying up with left hander Pedro Feliciano agreeing to a 2-year $8 million deal with the New York Yankees and Brian Fuentes seeking a multi-year contract.
Options include Will Ohman, Joe Biemel, and former Phillie JC Romero.
