On Saturday the Boston Red Sox acquired 1st basemen Adrian Gonzalez from the San Diego Padres for a package of 4 prospects.
By Sunday at 2pm the deal had fallen through because Gonzalez and the Red Sox couldn’t agree to a contract extension.
Just hours later, it’s back on. The deal is done. Gonzalez is officially a member of the Red Sox and no contract extension has been agreed to at this time. There will be a press conference on Monday to announce the deal.
Who knows if the Jayson Werth mega contract with the Washington Nationals had an impact on Boston’s thinking but hours after not being able to agree to an extension, they changed course and pulled the trigger on a move to bring in the All Star 1st basemen.
Sorry for the confusion on this topsy turvy move!
