The Washington Nationals have traded OF Josh Willingham to the Oakland Athletics for RHP Henry Rodriguez and minor-league OF Corey Brown.
Medical information is being exchanged and the deal should become official shortly.
Willingham is arbitration eligible for the 2011 season and is scheduled to become an unrestricted free agent after the season. However, Willingham’s agent Matt Sosnick and Athletics General Manager Billy Beane live within one block of each other in Danville, California, and a contract extension is expected to be worked out.
Willingham became expendable for the Nationals after they signed free agent OF Jayson Werth to a 7-year $126 million deal last week.
Last season Willingham batted .268 with 16 homers and 56 RBIs in 114 games for the Nationals.
