Japan players want to play in the Bigs

Interesting story this morning off the AP Wire. There are a few more Japanease players that want to jump over the Pacific Pond. Two members of Japan’s Chiba Lotte Marines said they want to play in the MLB next season.

Shortstop Tsuyoshi Nishioka and closer Hiroyuki Kobayashi both are speaking with the MLB to join the league as free agents via a “posting system.” According to the AP, it “allows major league teams to bid for the negotiating rights to Japanese players who have yet to become free agents.”

Nishioka hit .346 and led the Pacific League with 206 hits last season, winning the batting title. Kobayashi had 29 saves and managed a 2.21 ERA.
