Someone asked where the articles were on Friday. And I responded by not emailing them back and not posting anything on Saturday. I’m classy like that.
Please let me to explain.
When I started The [Five] (officially) back in 2007, I made myself a promise: I would give myself a weekend. Regardless of site traffic, breaking stories or a fantastic idea for a column – I need two days to rest, relax, refuel.
That goes for everyone in every avenue of life, really. The weekend is a quick way to prevent burn out. Grinding seven days in a row, four times per month, 12 times every year isn’t healthy.
I’ve done it at school, I’ve done it at work. And I said, I won’t do it for this site.
By the time Friday rolled around I looked at the schedule and realized it was my “weekend” now. Actually, turns out I’ve taken the last two Friday’s off. No posts, no minor website tweaks. So even though I spent the entire week busting my backside to break a few “newsworthy” stories on The [Five] – I had to push the keyboard away.
It’s no bueno in my book but necessary.
