It keeps getting worse for Buffalo Bills fans. The Bills will be blacked out on local television. It’s the second time this season. The blackout covers a 75-mile radius.
Sunday’s game against the Detroit Lions did not sell-out by the NFL deadline – 72 hours prior to kickoff. Buffalo’s last home game, on Oct. 10, was also not a sellout.
Detroit owns the NFL’s longest active playoff drought, dating to the 1999 season – 24 consecutive games. The Bills (0-8) are the NFL’s only remaining winless team.
And it’s not looking up. Fans now have another reason to look the other way.
Newly acquired linebacker, Shawne Merriman, didn’t have a productive first practice. It didn’t last very long, and now it’s uncertain when he will play again. Merriman, a three-time Pro Bowl selection, hurt himself during drills roughly 10 minutes into practice.
According to NFL.com, Coach Chan Gailey said Wednesday that “Merriman strained his lower right leg and that it’s not ‘anything major,’ but declined to offer any specifics. Gailey did say the injury makes it less likely Merriman will make his Bills debut Sunday against Detroit.”
