It can be sad to look at a list and realize a team I followed for years, one ranked in the Top 25 for – what seemed like – forever is now sitting at No. 90. I’m talking about my Arizona Wildcats. They are 5-0, by the way.
Rankings… UGH.
Or how about the Arizona football team? They lost a game – one huge game! – and now they have slipped back to irrelevance after what I thought was going to be a top ten year.
It is a little disturbing to say the least.
University of Arizona was off to a great start in football and in true fashion, after securing a bowl game, decided to just give up. The AP and the Coaches Poll have them at No. 20 and they are now No. 21 in the BCS standings.
How could this have happened? Well, they go bowl eligible and threw in the towel.
Against Oregon, they didn’t fail, they quit. After leading by seven at the end of the first and by two at the half, they quit. The team decided that they really didn’t want to win so, meh, they just won’t play anymore.
And they lost 48-29. They may have also lost their shot at a decent bowl game.
Back to Wildcats Basketball – No. 90? Really?
Okay I know that the team is still in the rebuilding years from Lute leaving, but the team is 5-0! Can they get a break? Thankfully, they are still way higher than ASU – who sit at No. 130 – but at 5-0 they deserve to be higher. They play No. 6 Kansas tonight, that will be the real test. I realize that they’re not an East Coast team and those teams tend to dominate but where are the strong West Coast counter parts. Does the Pac-10 not stand for anything?
I guess the Pac-10 has a long road ahead of them in the rankings and has a lot to prove. But this is only the beginning of College Basketball season and the rankings are always changing and teams and the players on them are always out to surprise. So watch out because #No. 90 may just become No. 25 or maybe No. 5.
