Updated BCS Game Predictions
National Championship – Alabama vs. Ohio State
No reason to change this prediction from last week. Alabama dismantled Duke as Mark Ingram made his debut with 151 yards on just 9 carries. Ohio State also did its part by routing Ohio. I still believe Boise State is the second best team in the land, but Virginia Tech’s struggles (even though they beat East Carolina this weekend) will continue to hurt Boise States chances. Winner: Alabama
Rose Bowl – Oregon vs. Boise State
Oregon still looks to be the favorite in the Pac-10 as it beat up on Portland State to the tune of 69 to 0. While Arizona and Stanford impressed this weekend against wins over Iowa and Wake Forest respectively, Oregon gets to face each of them at home. As I noted last week, if the Big 10 champ is in the National Championship game and there is qualifying non-AQ school, then the Rose Bowl must take them. So far this could be either Boise State or TCU, but Boise State has a much easier slate and chance at going undefeated and getting this Rose Bowl slot. Winner: Boise State
Orange Bowl – Miami vs. West Virginia
Miami was off this past weekend, but they still look to be the best team in the ACC. They could further cement that with a victory against Pittsburgh on Thursday. West Virginia looked great this past weekend in its matchup against Maryland. The Mountaineers QB Geno Smith looks like the best quarterback in the Big East and should lead them to the conference title. Winner: Miami
Fiesta Bowl – Nebraska vs. Wisconsin
Nebraska looked like a potential National Championship contender as it completely dismantled the Washington Huskies and destroyed the Jake Locker’s Heisman hopes. With Texas and Oklahoma showing some flaws in their wins against Texas Tech and Air Force, I don’t see how either of those teams, with each breaking in a new quarterback this season, could get past Nebraska’s defense. I still think the Fiesta Bowl committee will take the Big Ten runner-up and I still cannot decipher who that may be between Wisconsin and Iowa, but with Iowa’s loss against Arizona, I am just going to go with the team that beat a Pac-10 foe this weekend, and that’s Wisconsin. Winner: Nebraska
Sugar Bowl – South Carolina vs. Texas
I am going to go out on a limb here and say South Carolina will represent the SEC East over Florida in the SEC Championship game. I am drinking the Stephen Garcia and Marcus Lattimore kool-aid. Florida had a good win against Tennessee, but after seeing what Oregon did to the Volunteers a week earlier, it gave me even more doubts about this Gator team. The SEC East will come down to Nov. 13 when South Carolina visits the swamp. I expect the SEC Runner-up to face the Big-12 Runner-up and this will be either Texas or Oklahoma. Texas looked better than Oklahoma this weekend, so I’ll go with Texas for the time being. Winner: Texas
