It was the same story for the Oregon State Beavers. They lost to the Boise State Broncos, 37-24. The team that is now 1-14 in games before October since Mike Riley took the helm.
The Beavers’ (1-2) offensive combo of Jacquizz and James Rodgers never got moving. And the 54-yard punt return for a touchdown by James – the first punt touchdown of his career – wasn’t enough to spark the team. Especially the defense.
Now Heisman Hopeful Kellen Moore completed 19-of-27 for 288 yards for the Broncos (3-0). He tacked on three touchdowns. Running back Doug Martin sliced through the Beaver defense for 138 yards
The Oregon State defense gave up 469 total yards, 22 first downs and the Boise State bested OSU when it mattered. The Broncos were 9-for14 on third down.
The only place Boise State struggled was in-between snaps. The team fought penalties the entire game.
“This seems like it’s been a long day, a long day. I think the good thing about this game is we were able to come out with a ‘W.’ But I think everybody in the locker room knows how hard we made it on ourselves,” Boise State coach Chris Petersen told the AP. “At times we were very, very frustrated with ourselves, with just some really costly penalties. I think our special teams play we need to tight up a little bit.”
The Broncos started slowly but hit a groove in the second quarter – scoring 17 points. Oregon State never really had an answer after that point. They battled back but couldn’t overcome the deficit.
Beaver QB Ryan Katz finished 12-of-26 for 159 yards. Jacquizz finished with 46 yards on the ground.
