The epic run for the lady Greyhounds came to an end last week. But, it was deja vu all over again. Only four days after losing to the Corbett Cardinals in the season finale, the the Greyhounds girls basketball team lost to the Cardinals, again, this time, 49-40, in the first round of the 2A Northwest League playoffs last Tuesday.
Going into the playoffs everyone was saying the right things. Head coach Jamie Medley was excited to have another shot at Corbett after they barely crept out the door with a win – twice – winning by two at home and then by five at Gaston. Athletic Director Jerry Mettee was excited for the girls to get post-season experience.
The Greyhounds entered the playoffs as the fifth-seed. And then suffered the team’s fifth-straight loss.
The lady Greyhounds (7-7, 15-10 overall) started off the season 13-3 before losing seven of the final nine games of the season, including three losses to Corbett. The Cardinals seemed to have the Greyhounds number this season – each margin of victory was greater than the previous.
