Oregon State University defensive end Victor Butler has been selected as one of 34 preseason candidates for the 2008 Ted Hendricks Defensive End of the Year award, it was announced Monday by the Ted Hendricks Foundation.
Butler is a 6-2 senior who is slated to be a starter this season after being used mainly as a pass rushing specialist the previous three years. The Rialto, Calif., native has 53 career tackles, including 13.5 quarterback sacks. Butler had 10.5 sacks last season (3rd in Pac-10) and accounted for 124 yards lost in tackles (3rd in the nation). The three-year letterman was also named the team’s most improved player last year by a vote of his teammates and was the co-recipient of the team’s “Lunch Bucket Award.”
The winner of the Hendricks Award will be announced at the ESPN College Football Awards Show in Orlando in December.
