“Though it’s unclear when the Seahawks will cut the cord on running back Shaun Alexander, a source with knowledge of the situation tells us that it’s an open secret within the organization that Alexander is going to be released according to Profootballtalk.com.

The problem is that, by winning the MVP award in 2005 and propelling the Seahawks to a Super Bowl berth, the Seahawks had no choice but to reward him. The Seahawks were worried during the 2005 campaign about giving Alexander an in-season extension, because they feared that he’d instantly lose his will to churn out the yardage. Since getting a big-money deal two years ago, Alexander’s performance has dropped off dramatically, due to injuries and general ineffectiveness.

Trading him isn’t a realistic option, because no one is going to want to absorb that contract. It has been speculated in league circles that Alexander eventually could land in Tennessee, since former Seahawks exec Mike Reinfeldt is the GM there.”
