Former Beavers & NFL off-season rumors

Free Agency Starts tomorrow and its going to be interesting to see how that affects some former Oregon State athletes. A look at a few guys that will be/have been impacted this off season:

Derek Anderson, QB, has resigned with the Browns… more to come as it comes.

Mike Hass, WR, is still hanging around the Bears which equals disaster for a white wide receiver. Unless your name is Wayne Chrebet or Joe Jurevicious you shouldn’t be north of the Ohio River. But there might be some good news for Hass. The Bears parted ways with Musin Muhammed and are having contract negotiations with Bernard Barrian (and agent Drew Rosenhaus) which could mean Hass moves from the #6 spot to a 4 or even a 3. Barrian is most likely set to move to Minnesota which leaves the Bears with only 4 WRs total (Rasheen Davis, Devan Hester, Mark Bradley and Hass).

I’d take Hass over those other three any day.

Chad Johnson, WR, is coming up in trade talks. That’s right. Washington Redskins owner Dan Snyder loves Johnson and wants him to be his QB’s main target. The Bengals say they refuse to deal Johnson but don’t be surprised if Washington puts a pretty penny on the table, they have been known to throw a lot of money at WR’s (see: Antwaun Randle El, Rod Gardener, Santana Moss, etc. etc.). After what the Patriots did this season with a full house at WR, look for the Redskins to try and recreate that magic (and most likely fail) next season.

Tim Euhus, TE, is leaving the Arizona Cardinal organization. The Cards’ decided to not tender an offer to the restricted free agent. Euhus has had limited playing time in the NFL since leaving the Black and Orange. Chances are he will be popping up in a running-first offense as a backup TE. He has hands but in the NFL teams seem to use him a lot in running situations as a “decoy” of sorts and using him on the play action less frequently than they should.

Places like Green Bay, Miami or even Philadelphia would be a good fit for Euhus. It would allow him to fit into a running offense and use his skills as a blocker and a play action threat on teams (esp. Green Bay) that use the play action.

  1. D.A. has now resigned w/ the Browns, you might want to update your story.

As for Chad Johnson, if the Bengals think they have a shot in hell without him they are smoking some serious Cincy crack. Chad won’t go anywhere, T.J. wont go anywhere.

Other than that, this post is RIGHT on.

  2. Wait, Mike Hass isn’t going to be traded? NOOOO!!! I want Mike to go to Arizona!
