Bernard has 18 carries already in the game. . . 30 seconds into the 3rd quarter. My (unofficial) stat line on him is 95 yards on the ground with a TD. Right after I type that he gets another 4 carries in a row. . . which will make Dan Edmonds a happy man. Dad is sweating Bernard right now. Beavers punt.
On a sidenote, media timeouts are worthless. . . and seem to always interrupt the Beaver’s momentum. . . and especially on defense.
MAYBE NOT: Derrick Doggett comes up with a key sack on Turner, and the Terps are forced to punt from their own 15 yard line. Taylor Kavanaugh tries to dance a bit on the return, but gets mauled by a Maryland tackler.
The Beavers appear to be driving towards the lead when Canfield is sacked by #40 Jeremy Navarre. . . drive killer. Serna’s punt is downed one the 1 yard line. Espn is showing highlights of what I overheard one journalist call Serna’s “LSU extra point fiasco”. . . why they gotta hate?
I’d be scared if I were on the Maryland offense right now. Your own one yard line is no place to be when Gerard Lee and Dorian Smith are in the game. A couple runs later… 3rd and 3 to go, ball on the 3. Taylor makes a critical error in receiving a delay of game penalty. . . pushing the Terps back to the 3 yard line. . . and then a false start! Maryland is beginning to look a bit undisciplined in this adverse situation. . . Terrapin punt.
Speaking of undisciplined, linebacker Dennis Christopher got a little overzealous on the punt. So overzealous that he played pattycake with punter Obi Egekeze’s leg. The roughing penalty results in the continuation of Maryland’s drive, with a little under two minutes to go in the 3rd. . . No bother, because Egekeze is quickly back out on the field, and Kavanaugh returns the punt 26 yards, and Bernard takes it 29 yards on the next play. Shake it like you mean it, Yve. . . but hold onto the ball! His fumble on the 2 yard line is luckily recaptured by James Rogers. . . in the end zone. Beaver TD, and the Serna kick make it 21-14 OSU.
Look for Maryland to come out passing in the 4th.
