Piece be with you…

There are a lot of things that amaze me. The one thing that amazes me the most is how many ways people try to use marijuana in their everyday lives.

People tell me that because I don’t smoke it, I don’t get it. Maybe that’s true, and I’m not talking about how people use it recreationally because I know that people like to smoke it, eat it, and make clothes from it.

I am more impressed with how people use it in everyday situations. As a pain-killer, “Dude, the only thing that takes the pain away is marijuana,” as an excuse, “Man, I didn’t mean to say that I was baked,” for jokes, “What’s wrong with me, I just bought weed from a baby,” or in this case, as a religion like the Temple 420.

That’s right, the Temple 420.

Reverend Craig X. Rubin is a mail-order minister from a Hollywood church that, according to the AP, burns marijuana during services. On top of that he also claims that he is protected under federal law because the drug is a religious sacrament.

Yes you read correctly, a religious sacrament. This is why I love America.

Which brings me to a fork in the road because on the one hand, are you serious? On the other hand, no really are you serious? I don’t know whether to be blown away in amazement by Rubin’s genius or blown away by his stupidity. Much like Mike Tyson, Rubin is either the smartest man in the world or the dumbest man in the world to think of this. I can just see the ceremony.

The great Reverend stands up and says, “My piece be with you.”

The crowd answers back, “And ours with you.”

To which Reverend Rubin replies, “These are the words with which Cheech and Chong chose to greet their homies, gather around the table, this is our bong, smoke from it, for it is the weed of our botanical garden.”

The best part about Rubin’s story is he isn’t in trouble for having the church but rather selling the weed to his patrons. Though he was ordained in 1990 by the Universal Life Church, police and prosecutors describe Rubin as a drug dealer and he faces up to seven years in prison if convicted of possessing marijuana for sale.

Rubin, who’s representing himself at his drug trial, says members of his Temple 420 believe that marijuana is the tree of life mentioned in the Bible. The 41-year-old Rubin has no legal experience so what is he doing to prepare for his trial?

Well, considering the judge, Mary Strobel, has thrown out his defense that he is protected by federal law, stating that it can’t be used because he faces only state charges most people would be reading up on legal issues, back court cases or briefing any local lawyers.

Not Rubin, instead, according to the Associated Press, he is praying and smoking marijuana with Indians in a sweat lodge at the bottom of the Grand Canyon.

Niiiiiice.

Way to get ahead in life Rubin.

This is when I feel bad for the troops overseas. Shout out to all the troops fighting overseas, this is what you are fighting to protect – Californian stupidity.

Not only has this pothead decided to create a religion based on marijuana but he has also managed to convert other dumb asses to follow him. More so I would imagine that most people don’t believe in this religion and are using it as a cheap and easy way to smoke pot.

What happened to integrity in this country? Look people, if you want to just go out and smoke a bowl; do it. Don’t create a religion and try and hide behind the Amendments for safety. Go out, get a nickel bag, go home and do it. And when the cops show up to bust you, deal with it, that’s the consequence.

But really in the end that is why America is so amazing. Anyone with a brain and two joints can call it a religion and burn blunts for 45 minutes every Sunday and there are other people in your neighborhood that are willing to join. And more than that, there are also people in the neighborhood willing to pick up a gun and defend your right to do that.

It’s just freaking amazing.
